Pearled & Minimal Pearled

The below pictures show some of the variations that can be found within the "pearled" mutant. I am only referring to the actual "pearling" itself; variants in the shade coloration can also exist. What these pictures show are the PEARLED, and the MINIMAL PEARLED. I have not found a "term" to accurately describe any "pearled" bird that may fall in between the extremes of each. The term "Pearled" is explanatory of any bird that may be 50% or more that is Pearled. "Minimal Pearled" is any bird less then the 50% &can have pearling effect down to only a single or a couple of "pearled feathers".

You can look at the pictures & the captions & see the differences. Not all will be exactly as seen in these pictures but it will give an idea. FYI: the parents of all birds except the TWNR (Tangerine White Neck Ring) were heterozygous tangerine (single dose tangerine). Both parents had silver to grey flights & greyish neckrings.

Tangerine Pearled - nicely "pearled"

ŠJohn Pire
Minimal Tangerine Pearled - not good "pearling". This is an example of an 'inbetween" bird.

Same two birds shown in above pictures - note differences in the pearling when seen side by side.

Per John Fowler: comments "the above two birds he considers both to be examples of M+ at the modifier locus & the bird in the picture below as ++ at the modifier locus"

ŠJohn Pire

An excellent example of a Minimal Pearled bird. I call this a TWNR (Tangerine White Neck Ring) Parents of the above bird were very minimal pearled birds, female parent was very similar to the above minimal pearled & the male parent had about 6 pearled feathers. Both parents had white neck ring & white flights.
