Spotted Imperial Pigeons
(Ducula carola)
John Pire

These pictures show the young from the 3rd US breeding of this species. The Spotted Imperial had never before been in US collections until Don Hanover imported them in the late 1980's. Don successfully propagated young from the several wild caught pairs he had. Don had the first US breeding of this specie. Don then shared this specie with a mutual friend and myself. Our mutual friend had the 2nd US breeding and I the 3rd US breeding.

I liked this Imperial Pigeon, it is not as large as most of the Imperial Pigeons, is somewhat calm (at least in my aviaries) and freely breeds in captivity. I obtained two wild caught pair from Don.
