Iris Coloration Comparison
(IDS thanks Jeff Downing for taking such great up close pictures)

The Crested, on the right, were imported from Europe & has a more orange-yellow (yellow-orange) iris coloration then in the Ringneck (on left). All the birds in these 3 pictures are adult Wild Types.

This feature applies only to the current color mutations listed; Wild type, Tangerine, Tangerine Pearled & Orange. With this facet being in found in these colors, it can be assumed that the iris coloration is the "normal color" of them. This distinct feature should be included & accepted as part of their description.

Not many colors in the Crested were imported & therefore the iris coloration cannot be verified for all the known colors in Europe. This facet may be a factor in the descriptions & the differences noted between the similar colors of the European & US Ringnecks.

This iris coloration facet may disappear all together once they are bred with regularity with common "risoria" here in the US. It is hoped there are some fanciers who will preserve this facet in their birds & breed them to retain this new iris coloration.
